In the book I have written I am proudest of Figure 3. "Plots the 410.2nm with energy levels from one to five x 10 to the minus 19 J". At first I thought I would need a super computer to generate the figure but a little thinking made me realize that I could generate it without the super computer. If you follow the 12 billion light years vertically until it intersects the curved line depicting emission wavelengths you will see a 695 nm entry at that point. It tells you what the emission wavelength will be from the rainbow of colors emitted by any star or galaxy at that distance from the earth when it reaches the earth. I am aware that many stars and galaxies are receding from us which gives a red shift to the rainbow of colors emitted by the stars. I have never read that cosmologists credit the Compton effect as also giving a red shift to the stars and the two have the same effect and therefore they credit non existence recessionary speed to the change in wavelength to the rainbow of colors from almost all stars. The Compton effect is a DISTANCE indicator and not a RECESSIONARY indicator. Among the things I hope the reader will learn and enjoy is the fact that the moon travels around the world from west to east instead of east to west. The moon contributes a powerful force to the ocean current around the world and through the Indian ocean, which alters ocean levels greatly, and is the reason Holland needs dikes. I called all my family and informed them of the situation. My husband and I sat and talked and cried and tried to make sense of the whole situation. My daughter and son came by to see how I was and to give support. I was numb, despair set in and I was just going through the motions of being "e;normal"e;. That night, as I retired, I prayed for peace, insight, strength and the ability to endure what lied ahead of me. It was October of 2003. While I was asleep, the title, 411 Terrorists Within, kept popping in and out of my mind. Then the story started to unfold...almost like a movie. I would wake up and return to sleep. Over and over, the same dream. I finally got up and sat in the dark for some time, praying, crying and thinking of what was going on in my head. I finally got a tablet and began to scribe all this information and the title and feelings going on inside my mind and heart. I wrote and cried until my fingers hurt and my eyes were so swollen I couldn't see anymore. I put the tablet aside and went back to bed. I was finally able to get some much needed rest. When I woke up later that morning, I was sitting with my husband having coffee when I remembered the tablet. I picked it up and tried to read it. It was too fresh, too hard to read at that time. I sat it aside and continued the day. A few days later, I picked up the tablet again, read it and decided to type it on my computer. I shared it with my husband, daughter, son, mother and sisters. It was just my thoughts and feelings I wanted to share with them. I shared it with one of my doctors and was urged to have it published. She thought It would be very beneficial to patients, survivors and care givers as insight to the honest feelings of one going through such an ordeal, not just cancer patients. I shared it with a cousin, who is a published poet and author, and she thought it was worthy of publication, also. It took 5 years to get the heart to complete the story and here it is. I do hope it serves a purpose and maybe a hint of insight to raw feelings of one facing the uncertainty of one's future with the news of a devastating medical or physical ordeal.

Book Summary Remembering the Last Ninety Years, the biography of John Wallace Etheredge, Captain, United States Army Air Corp, Retired is an anecdotal book recounting Johns East Texas childhood in the 1920s and 30s, his pilot experiences in World War II as Air Defense Commander on the West Coast, and his family life. Someone once told me that when the next generation has it rough, its because they are reaping what the generation before them has sowed. This is what Creole people would call Blood Magic in the Basement (or so Ive been told). I am Vernon Lucas II and my father was a kingpin in the heroin drug trade. I cant say that my adult life has been easy, but at least as a child I never really wanted for anything. Ive been told that since my family has helped to poison many people in America with illegal drugs, that I was cursed to suffer in my adult life for their sins. I almost believed that for a time. I felt very restless in my adult life and very few goals that I set for myself ever worked out for me. I felt ashamed and even embarrassed by my family, until I began to research the reasons why they did what they did in the first place. My father and his brothers came from very humble beginnings. His mother, my Grandmother was a field hand/housewife and her husband, my Grandfather was a share cropper as well as a bootlegger. They lived, loved and struggled in the segregated south of the early 1900s. There have been rumors about how mean my Grandfather was, but by the time I had to live with him he was much kinder and gentler. My Fathers brother, Frank Lucas was at least 20 years older than he was, so it was natural for him to look up to my Uncle Frank as not only an older brother but also as somewhat of a Father figure. Frank left home at a very early age to make his own way in life and turned to a life of crime out of necessity. He became one of the best at what he did. It was just a matter of time before my father eventually followed in his footsteps. I am by no means condoning what they did in the 60s & 70s I just want to let it be known that they were not Harvard Educated, to say the least and they felt that they didnt have much choice in what they did. To follow their American dream, they sold narcotics and cut out the middle man in doing so. This allowed them to sell it very pure and inexpensive. Needless to say, it pissed a lot of people off. Once they made their fortune, they invested within their community, gave an economic boost to many minorities across America, as well as paying back taxes and saving the homes of certain celebrities. These were only some of the positive things that they accomplished. The real story is that of the Country Boys. Even though there wouldnt be any Country Boys without the help of my Uncle Frank. The Country Boys and Frank Lucas were 2 completely separate entities. It took the help of the Country boys to expand Frank Lucas empire and even though it started out with number running and narcotics, it eventually became so much more. My father, Vernon (Shorty) Lucas Sr. helped run the Country Boys and with the help of his brothers he was able to pull his family and everyone he knew out of obscurity and poverty. Frank wasnt very proud of what he felt he had to do to make a living so he lied to his mother and told her that he was a business man. When he brought her up north from North Carolina he Lived in New York and set his Parents and most of his siblings up in Northern New Jersey. This autobiographical tale gives firsthand insight on what it was actually like growing up in such a household. I have decided to share at least the first 30 years of my life to show exactly what I personally went through as the son of an American Gangster. It has been an emotional roller coaster for me and I cannot determine which came first; the chicken or the egg. Meaning: Was my lifes emotional instability inherited, or was it caused by the way I had to live? You be the judge. I am hoping this autobiography serves some as a manual as well as entertainment through self education. So in synopsis, what Im trying to convey is that the Lucas family is so much more than this gangster image

It is not everyday that a book comes along that really conveys the humor, laughter, and misnomers rolled into a Moms neck. I am a victim of a different scheme where I have been treated as a slave by my separated wife and her male friend and guru using the judicial system of family law which has made me homeless, and in debt. Due to my ex-wifes unrighteous and immoral lifestyle prior to marriage, and later her joining a New Age Reike Cult in Ottawa with beliefs Universe will provide without working, single parenthood, love everyone; she decided to leave the marriage and abandoned me with with the help from her lawyer with lies and untruths in her affidavits that I was controlling and abusive. Before she abandoned me she was practicing in the field of Reike, psychic healing, black magic and herbal medicine. She quit her executive job, and then abandoned me on May 9th 1997. After which, with the help of her male friend and guru and dishonest lawyer, my wife lived off me by receiving spousal and child payments, and has taken all I have worked and saved during the past 30 years. She refused to work and did not provide medical evidence to the court that she was unable to work. I am a simple righteous, religious and educated man, and I live by the tenets of my Zoroastrian religion which are opposite to her New age beliefs. My separated wife, and her male friend are responsible for my present New Age slavery. On October 3rd, 2003, at the Superior Court of Justice (Family Court) in Ottawa, I made a request to the Madam Justice during my defense that "e;Justice should be based on truths and not on untruths"e;, to which a Madam Justice replied as follows: An officer of the court, the lawyer (representing my estrange wife), can say untruths or lies in order to win the case, and make money for his client and himself. Repercussions from such an action by an officer of the court, namely telling lies, have been very serious to me; as, for the past thirteen years I have suffered extreme mental and psychological cruelty in terms of having no life, financial hardships, and also my daughter has been separated from me. The bag of tricks used by my wifes lawyers to increase the settlement were very painful, mentally cruel and devastating to me. Initially my wife did not provide financial disclosure for very long time, and then I lost my lawyer as he joined a high tech company. After which my wifes lawyer went for a trial, and I was told 2 weeks prior to that and hence had to get a new lawyer. A settlement was reached at the eve of the trial where the disclosure for the settlement from my wife was minimal. Then my wife garnished my CSCOOP bank account when I was away from the country on a Zoroastrian historical and religious tour of Persia in spring of 2003. This happened despite my letter to my wifes lawyer stating that I will be away from Ottawa for 3 weeks, then hire a lawyer and pay the settlement. Garnishment was purposely done, as I could not afford to hire a lawyer to defend myself without money. After that, I went through very difficult time financially, and had no money to pay bills for over 8 weeks, and had to borrow money at high interest rate to continue living. During this period, my wifes lawyer brought in 2 more motions to the court and won as I represented myself. The motions included occupancy rent, and exclusive rights to sell the house, and they also prevented me to purchase my own home twice by increasing the settlement amounts falsely. After that, my wifes lawyer made me look bad in the eyes of the Judge by making false accusations that I was interfering with the sale of the house etc; and for nearly 3 years they did not sell the house to make interest on the settlement, and also to collect the occupancy rent each month. I consider it is an illustration of the old adage that indeed, "e;truth is stranger than fiction."e; Except for the grammatical violation in using the term, it might well be said that his description of life in this childrens' warehouse, aka orphan home, is most unique......The time, setting and circumstances of Nick's "e;sojourn"e; in the orphanage have long since been obliterated by the sands of time and, like much of the long-ago past, cannot be recreated or duplicated today. These buildings within were cold and soot-encrusted. For all intents and purposes, they were as isolated as though patrolled by armed guards. However, the exterior was little more than camouflage, offering no clue to the confusion and disorientation raging inside. At fifteen years of age, he was inured to a robot-like state of lethargy, devoid of initiative, stripped of any self esteem and submissive to any vestige of authority. It is a road memoir written while plying up and down the two main highways, from Southern California to the Bay Area, and up into the High Sierras. The dark blue Volvo wagon travels the two interstates at highway speeds, sometimes taking the old road, Highway 99, and sometimes the new road, Highway 5, going back and forth between Los Angeles and San Francisco--never slowing down and almost never stopping. People ask me what my book is about. I say life, being inclusive but evasive. Or I say its about the cabin or the lake or my family or the Central Valley, being more particular but probably less accurate. Truth and honesty are also problematic. Who knows? So if I dont really know what its about, whats in it to be gotten out? Mostly it came out of a realization of how important this particular piece of geography was to me, how big a part of my life it was. Something I had never realized before. It was all bound up with my family. I had repudiated them to go off with my husband. Then when he repudiated me, that helped me get closer to my own past. Like other road books it is a journey to self, a voyage of self-discovery. Like other memoirs it turns out to be finding oneself through discovering the connection to ones family. Now I belong to myself. The word-hoard is unlocked: out of its store Im repaying my debt to the matriarchy by reproducing the words of my mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. As I write I have an intense feeling of dj vu. I have heard this all before, said this all before, written this all before. The trickle became a stream, the stream flowed into a river, the river merged with the sea. This book began suddenly one night as I was driving along a stretch of road in the San Joaquin Valley, somewhere near Sanger, California. It continued as I drove along the roads of the Central Valley, going up to the cabin or heading up to Berkeley to visit my daughter Sharon- -who was a student there from 1980 to 1984. It was written down in roadside cafes, sitting on the dock at the lake, or in the library at the University of California, but it was often composed at the wheel, as I was rolling along. It is impossible to talk about the book without talking just like the book, since it is itself so concerned with its own gestation process. It talks to itself and about itself constantly, incessantly. Who am I to say what it is about? Praise from Susan Pepper Robbins: A hymn to California, the Central Valley, and Highway 99, the Litany is full of the anger, joy, and pain of family life, together with an obvious love of the world. The writing has been compared to that of Joan Didion, Doris Lessing, and Wallace Stevens. Set in the San Joaquin Valley and the High Sierras, the essays treat of the many transformations that occur in a family: the death of the father and the birth of a granddaughter, the departure of a husband and the beginning of a new life, the acquisition of a mountain cabin and its loss to heavy snows. People are born and die, come together and split apart; houses are built and destroyed, crops bloom and ripen, the moon rises and sets. The elements are a powerful force determining events. It is a road book written in real time on the open road, on the highways of California; it also travels to Europe: to Paris, London, Italy, Greece and Israel. The book is full of buried anecdotes that glow through the surface texture. It tells a lot of truth with its lies.

This autobiography Struck Down, but Not Destroyed is a vintage narrative of a struggling African American man who is committed to make something out of himself -- without blaming America for his problems along the way. Had it not been overcome, by anything short of a miracle! My life would not have been intuitively accelerated and transpired the way you shall be touched by it. J.M. Valente shares the unique circumstances that define a life accelerated as he tells all on the variously exciting experiences of his life in The Time of My Lives. In a gentle-mannered yet surprisingly riveting narrative, Valente pulls out all the stops, withholding only last names to affirm his awkward beginnings, early awakenings, and various endings. During the Great Depression families who suffered loss of income, loss of health, and loss of life sought frantically for ways to survive. Social Security, Housing and Urban Development, Public Assistance, and Public Health programs available today were limited or non-existent back then. All extended family members helped out as much as they could. When this was not enough, the only choice was to break up the family. Benevolent Jews had established orphanages to care for children left homeless or in poverty. The largest of these orphanages was the Hebrew Orphan Asylum, better known as the HOA or The Home, located between 136th to 138th Streets on Amsterdam Avenue across from the Lewisohn Stadium of the City College of New York City. From 1929 to 1939 the HOA housed more than one thousand boys and girls at a time. The Hebrew Orphan Asylum was referred to as a city within a city as it was basically self-contained. Not only where there the essentials of residential life-- dormitories, a kitchen, a dining room, an infirmary, a dental clinic, and a laundry--but also a public school 192, a synagogue, and a religious school. Then too there were a bakery, a shoe shop, a tailor shop, a barber shop, a clothing store, a candy store, a woodworking room, a sewing room, a photography studio and darkroom, a boys scout room, a band room, a choir room, athletic fields and playgrounds. There was a Reception House, the Main Building, the Warner Brothers Gymnasium (state of the art at that time), and buildings for boilers for heating. It had its own transportation system and a fire engine. There were military bands and drill squads, fraternities and sororities, as well as baseball, basketball, and football teams that competed with other orphanages and the junior varsity at City College. Orphans, half orphans, and children from broken families began their shared institutional lives at the Reception House where they were isolated for two weeks to assure they did not bring any contagious disease or illness into the institution. The author was one of those with a family destroyed by alcoholism and poverty who had to leave his family at the age of nine and begin an orphan's life. He writes: "e;Having seen, from my top-floor perch in the Reception House, children who were playing on the huge field below, and having listened to the marching band and watched the military drills, I was looking forward to moving to the Main Building. But when I finally got there I felt lost in the labyrinth of hallways and doorways, and among the masses of children who were coming and going. Outside, in the courtyard, were more than 100 children talking, shouting and playing together. One of my first memories there is of hearing a short rotund man suddenly shout above that babble of voices: "e;All Steeeeeeeeeel!"e; All Still. What that meant only became clear when, as I watched, most of the children froze in their places and stopped talking. One child did not freeze. The man with the powerful voice strode over to him and slapped him so hard across the face that the child fell down.In the years that I would be in the orphanage, that and similar examples made me obey the "e;All Still!"e; and always appear to be following commands, rules, and regulations, even when I wasn't obeying. What I witnessed there, day after day, also reinforced my hopeless and helpless feeling that there were immense forces beyond my control: my father's rage, my separation, my placement in an institutional environment, and the subsequent abuse in that environment. I wept within myself, and there was no adult at the institution to comfort me, not the first day nor the last."e;For his own healing, Dr. Siegel has written a book about his decade during the depression years in the Hebrew Orphan Asylum

Heartrending and poignant, the true-life episodes shared by author Kathleen Phifer in her book will surely stir your heart. Memories are tucked away, asleep in your mind waiting for some outside stimuli to awaken them. But what happens to a memory when you have been told over and over it was just a bad dream, yet you really, really know it was not? What happens to your mind, what happens to your life? What happens when the memory does awake and surfaces for a brief time and then returns to sleep, waiting for the next stimuli? My story, my life, my thoughts, my insights are revealed in my book, my autobiography. The day was January 19, 1948; the time was very early morning. I was four years old. I got out of bed to go to the bathroom and discovered my father's body hanging from a rope tied to a pipe over the toilet. He had committed suicide. I remember this very vividly, even though my mother tried to convince me for the rest of my life that I never saw what happened. My mother even went so far as to make imaginary visits to the hospital every week for five months, bringing me a present each time and telling me it was from my father. How could this have been, he was dead, I saw him hanging? My mother was protecting me, and protecting herself from a tragedy she only could deal with by denying its very existence. And, by doing so, denying me the opportunity to grieve and put the tragedy behind me. My young mind could not cope with this confusion, so my response was hostility towards my mother, hostility that must have been so intense, my mother's only recourse was to have me institutionalized. Most of my past tragedy has been asleep, except for brief periods: when my daughters each turned four years old, and when I turned 43, the age my father ended his life. When my mother died, at age 88, the trauma once again awakened within me and this time I had this inner energy to discover all that I had either forgotten, repressed, did not know and/or did not understand. Please join me on my emotional journey to rediscover my past, including the agonizing return to where I was institutionalized, realizing and facing the fact that even after all these years, I am a survivor of suicide, and I have all the scars that go along with it. I have been driven to tell my story, a story I never shared with anybody until now. The telling all began with my daughters Elisa and Jenny, age 26 and 24, they never knew how their grandfather died. I had never told them for fear that they would consider suicide in a moment of despair. The only way I felt comfortable telling my story was through the written word. Well, the words just kept coming and coming and soon I had a book! I still don't know where the energy came from, but it did (I like to think that my mother was guiding me). Looking for answers about suicide, I became involved with the American Association of Suicidology. They encouraged me to tell my story at their annual conference in Los Angeles. It was a very emotional experience, but I learned and so did the psychologists, psychiatrists and other survivors-it was an eye-opener few days! Most importantly this book is dedicated to my mother, whose love, courage and strength-even with her unnecessary denial and repression-had conquered all.I know my autobiography will be as rewarding a journey for you, as it finally has been for me.The American Association of Suicidology Publications Committee has placed my book on their recommended reading list.Judy Raphael Kletter

Turn Around Adverse Circumstances in Your Own Favor, Handicapped No Sir, No! -- Learn from my experiences Unique True Story Its entertaining, absorbing, full of fun stuff, emotional, romantic, educative, insight of young soldier in combat, emotions of a blind soldier, Asian perception of South Africa, America and above all very high value Lifes Lessons a Must reado Develop Never Say Die Approacho Always In Pursuit of Excellence, Combine fun with worko Positive Attitude is a fortiori greater than education, greater than wealth..,Why Unique?Unique Because... "e;This is the amazing life story of a remarkable man, who despite the loss of one eye in battle still rose to the rank of Colonel in the Indian Army before becoming totally blinded with the loss of his second eye.
