Evil, in such a manner, that we as a people cannot talk about. But see the demons in the people on these jobs, and churches, and on the streets day by day. This book is also a way of trying to alert God's people how these evil demonic people work through other people. And how they use other people upon you, and against you, and how they can cause people to hate you, through their powers of telepathy. Yes, they are evil. So many of you are destroyed in finances, marriages, and jobs, and you never knew how, or what hit you. Yes, you have been made to suffer, and never knew the enemy was with you in your own homes, listening to you praying aloud.Listening to your telephone conversations, watching you and destroying you, from the inside of your very homes. So, we must let our words be few, and seasoned with grace. In Other words, let us be careful what we say, when we speak. Kennon was one of twenty-five Americans in a single federal trial to receive the maximum sentence for a petty offense. Six months for a Class B misdemeanor and a $3,000 fine. The introduction, a fast-forward through this offenders life story, clearly reveals the motivations and consequences of this clergymans purposeful act of resistance, in the spirit of Gandhi and King and in the face of a governmental threat of prison time. Chapters 1 through 7 are taken from his contemporaneous prison journal and letters to family members. They tell how he was dealing with what happened each month during the time he was incarcerated. Over the years I have studied corrections as a sociologist and visited inmates as a clergyman. It is a very different experience being a prisoner, writes Kennon. He paints prison life with a mixture of pain and humor that captures the ironic picture of a correctional institution bent on retribution without rehabilitation. Mingled among these pages are his prison poems, reflections, and articles, as well as selected excerpts from wise writings he encountered during his time there. Its certainly about opera, yes, but it is filled with anecdotal stories of Rev. Mitchells opera-singing days, from back-stage\/on-stage incidents, to stories of singers, teachers, conductors, impressarios and more. OPERA INSIDE OUT also features detailed descriptions of seven well-known operas of the 40+ roles that Rev. Mitchell performed, including cast descriptions, story synopsis and in-depth analysis of plots, music, and background. Opera enthusiasts will learn things they didnt know. Opera students will get help in preparing roles. Opera teachers will find in-depth help for their students. Theater lovers will immerse themselves in back-stage shenanigans. Opera aficionados will be amazed at David Schecters in-depth analyses. Aspiring artists will share an experience that inspires. The following is a sample story from the book:The only vocal challenge in the role of Fenton [Verdis FALSTAFF] is the aria, Dal labro il canto estasiato vola (From my lips my ecstatic song is winging) at the beginning of Act 3, Scene 1. It is very slow with long legato lines requiring considerable breath control. It also has a very high tessitura, adding to the difficulty. (Fenton is a role I stopped singing later in my career because of the taxing tessitura.) There is a long orchestral introduction to that scene. Maestro Amato used this languorous music to drop a scrim of the large oak tree in place, which dominates center stage. Actually, it was done in two sections. The trunk came up from below the stage and the branches dropped from above and they met halfway. It took perhaps two to three seconds to accomplish. The magical effect was that the tree appeared to grow before your very eyes. It had such a stunning effect on the audience that they invariably applauded, and one could hear even from backstage murmurs of approval and astonishment. From the audience the sound of the tree coming together was a sort of woo-oo-sh! But standing a few feet away from it nervously awaiting my only solo scene in the entire opera, it sounded more like a crash. The first time I heard it I nearly jumped out of my skin. Instinctively I raised my arms to cover my head thinking a set was about to drop on me. But no such thing happened. Once the tree is in place it was quiet except for the intro music. I am supposed to enter in a dreamy state. Yeah, right! My heart was still jumping from the fright. Relax, Robert. Calm down! Its OK. They applauded they didnt laugh so it must be OK. Relax, already! Four of the stories are works of fiction. Some of the stories, for example, Life on a sugar plantation in colonial Guyana, contain a lot of information of historical significance that has previously been unrecorded and could well be lost in the passage of time. I was born in 1945 on Springlands Sugar Estate where we lived in a small cottage in the estate compound behind and west of the District Commissioners Office building. The story about life on a British colonial sugar plantation is drawn from personal experience and it is told in the voice of someone who actually lived that life. The story entitled: Going to America represents todays reality of Guyanese who have left, leaving, or trying to leave Guyana. The expatriate Guyanese community, particularly in North America, should certainly be able to relate to that experience. Many of my compatriots were forced to undergo a second traumatic deracination for economic and political reasons, lack of opportunity in the homeland, no jobs, no viable future, and other reasons, when they emigrated to Britain, United States of America, Canada, the West Indies, and other places. The ancestors of Afro-Guyanese were dragged out of Africa and brought to the New World as slaves. The forefathers of Indo-Guyanese were lured to British Guiana by deception and false promises and became bound coolies trapped in a form of indentured servitude that some regard as another form of slavery. The second Guyanese uprooting and displacement, though done largely voluntarily, was no less disruptive, frightening, emotionally turbulent, and difficult than the first one either from Africa or India. Life for these people in a new land, very often in hostile climatic conditions quite unlike the tropical conditions in the homeland, was difficult, harrowing, stressful, tumultuous, psychologically traumatic, and distressing for new emigrants. The history of the Guyanese people is written in blood, sweat, tears, suffering, and misery. The children of the new Guyanese diaspora will subsequently have their own story to tell about life in an alien land. It has been said that it is easy for the poor to escape from a poor nation but it is not so easy for them to escape poverty in a rich nation. Emigrants, particularly those of an older generation, who are set in their ways, often experience extreme difficulties acculturating and assimilating into a different society and adjusting to an alien way of life. They are often relegated to a shadowy existence in the marginalized immigrant community standing on the periphery of an alien culture looking in and experiencing loneliness, hopelessness, helplessness, and lacking a sense of belonging. Refer to the poem in this book entitled: Living in a place where you were not born for some insights on this issue. Stories such as: Hunting birds with slingshots in Guyana, Making and flying kites in Guyana, Catching mullet at No. 73 waterside, Notorious fowl thieves of the village, and When you really know it was Christmas time, can elicit strong nostalgia and sentimental memories of youthful experiences so pleasurable and engrossing that it could cause you to yearn for a past life that was simple, care-free, full of wonderful remembrances and recollections. When I think of the wonderful life I once lived at Clonbrook, I am a young lad all over again and I am happy. Those who lived that life and had fond memories of it should certainly share these stories with their children and grandchildren. Make these stories more real and fascinating by adding your own memories and experiences as you read them to your descendants. After all, everybody has a story to tell. There are forty eight poems in this compilation that are sure to evoke emotions and nostalgia. Many deal with subject matters pertaining to the Corentyne. The reason for that is simple. In years past these attacks had been levied against those receiving social security, Medicare andMedicaid which mainly affected the poor, disabled and elderly. Dont get me wrong these issues are stillon the table, but I guess politicians felt they had beaten them with a dead horse and needed anothersoft target to spark the publics interest so public school teachers was it. They struck with a vengeancefiring public school teachers by the thousands throughout the country. Whether waiting tables in high-end establishments, managing one of the first sushi restaurants in the region, or cooking for large crowds, the creation, presentation, and pleasure of a fine meal enhanced with theperfect liquid accompaniment was Bordach s greatest ambition. It was also almost his death. Relating tales both comic and tragic, Bordach takes us through his journey of alcohol addiction with a self-deprecating humor that belies the poignancy of his story. Coming of age during the 1970s in Detroit s downriver suburbs, yet deeply influenced by the woods and waters of northern Michigan, Bordach spans a wide-ranging landscape of love, friendship and work colored with the emotional despair and physical destruction of addiction. Both a cautionary tale and a hopeful ode to recovery, Last Call reminds us that addiction can happen to anyone. All his life, Rabbi Schultz was a strong critic of Communism. Even his foes, detractors, and a chorus of anti-Schultz people never questioned the sincerity of his position against Communism. In the United States as well as in Europe, many intellectuals viewed the criticism of Communism and the Soviet Union as nonobjective and a biased intellectual exercise. In an era in which Communism was viewed in many of the intelligentsia quarters as a benign philosophy that could offer many positive solutions, Rabbi Schultz was an exception. Rabbi Benjamin Schultz arrived at his anticommunist convictions by researching the state of Soviet Jewry. He concluded that the Soviet law against anti-Semitism was a paper shellgood for propaganda outside the Soviet Union but not a protecting shield for the Jews living in the Soviet Union.
