London L. Gore is a World WarII veteran serving front-line dutyin a Sherman tank with the 5thArmored Division after the UtahBeach landing. Living throughthe shelling on the battlefieldwas like being in a never-endingthunderstorm surrounded byunrelenting lightning strikes.After the war, London returned to the Carolinas and workedat timbering and right-of-way clearing. He met and marriedEllen and settled in Sumter, South Carolina. Their marriageof fi fty-one years produced two wonderful daughters, fourgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.
