Two and Two Make Zero seeks to decrypt childrens acquisitionof numerical concepts by considering this subject from avariety of perspectives, namely, numbers mathematical andconceptual properties, methods of number application inthe physical world, the mental processes involved in numberperception and cognition, the function, logic, and history ofnumber symbolization, number origin, and childrens cognitivedevelopment. Researched and written from a teachers viewpoint, this workaims ultimately to improve elementary mathematics instructionby creating a better understanding of these irreducibly simple,but often misunderstood, concepts.
