A Midsummer Night’s Dream

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedy play by William Shakespeare, written around 1595–1596. It is one of Shakespeare’s most popular and frequently performed works, blending romance, fantasy, and mistaken identity. The play is set in and around Athens and a nearby enchanted forest. It follows several intertwined storylines: the romantic confusion of four young Athenians—Hermia, Lysander, Helena, and Demetrius—and the quarrels of the fairy rulers Oberon and Titania. Much of the chaos is caused by magical вмешment in the forest. Oberon’s servant, Puck (also called Robin Goodfellow), uses a love potion that causes characters to fall in love with the wrong people, leading to comedic misunderstandings and shifting relationships. Alongside the lovers’ story, a group of amateur actors rehearses a play for Duke Theseus’s wedding. One of them, Bottom, is magically transformed to have the head of a donkey, adding to the play’s surreal and comic atmosphere.
