The Wound Dresser

This poem tells of Whitmans experience working as a war nurse to care for wounded soldiers. The speaker of the poem is an old man asked to tell about his experiences in war. He tells of being excited about war but then shifts to disillusionment when he sees its terrible impact on soldiers.
