This book was written to encourage, support, empower, educate, and provide knowledge to new medical surgical nurses. These nurses are at the forefront, taking care of patients from emergency room to the floor. Nurses hit the floor and start running. The book explains CHF; chest tubes care; DNR; assessment, intervention, and evaluation; pressure ulcer; proper identification of pressure ulcer; prevention and care; care plan; lab values; hospital codes; and blood transfusion.Nursing originated from the word nutricius meaning nourishing (Kalisch 1986, p. 1). Nurses are very active in taking care of and nourishing the life of our patients and their families. They are active participant in the promotion of health, illness prevention, and health maintenance.
